Plant City is a remarkable city in the awesome Hillsborough County, Florida. Guest can spot it just midway between Lakeland and Brandon, i.e. along Interstate 4. Regarding the population there have been recorded 29,915 people at the poll in 2000. In the year 2004, the U.S. Census Bureau recorded 30,906 people.
It is widely believed that the city bears the here above name due to the rich flora (particularly vegetables and fruits and well as tropical pot plant) and also due to the warm climate. Nevertheless it is a known fact that it bares the very name of a world-famous railroad developer, Henry B. Plant
The magnificent Plant City is known world-wide due to the annual Florida Strawberry Festival in the late winter (as a rule in February or early March), where people from the whole world come to spend a magnificent time.
In the past the city’s name was Ichepucksassa, which was an Indian village that once rules this land. After some time the city was renamed to Cork, after the postmaster's Irish hometown, which kind of created some confusion. In the end the city went on to be named the Plant City in the memory of the famous Henry B. Plant, a railroad business man which has left a strong and lasting mark on the commerce in this predominantly agricultural community by integrating it in the South Florida Railroad.
In its origins the magnificent Plant City was a large cotton centre, but after some time it changed its primary crop to strawberries and quickly became famous as the winter strawberry capital of the world.
