This Website has been created to tell the Florida story of the Interstate Highway System. The story has three chapters - the history of the system, how it exists today, and a peek into the future. I suggest you start off by viewing the video, Roads Well Traveled: 50 Years of Florida's Interstate System, or by reading Gerald Ensley's article, "When you think about it, interstate highways are pretty cool". Interstate 4 is a diagonal route between Tampa and Daytona Beach via Orlando. It is a rather short Interstate, but it serves major population areas in Central Florida along the U.S. 92 corridor. Interstate 4 has so much traffic that several toll roads have been constructed over the years to provide alternate routes and relief, including the Florida Greeneway/Seminole Expressway (bypass to the east of Orlando) and Florida 570/Polk Parkway.
