Interstate 4 Westbound - Orange and Osceola Counties

Exit 98 connects Lake Mary Boulevard with Interstate 4 via a partial-cloverleaf transition. Lake Mary Boulevard winds east from Markham Woods Road and up to Red Cleveland Boulevard south of Orlando-Sanford International Airport. An extension of Lake Mary Boulevard will continue the road east to Cameron City and junction Florida 46 and 415 east of Sanford. Photo taken 01/01/06.

A two-lane off-ramp serving Lake Mary Boulevard from Interstate 4 west. Lake Mary Boulevard goes into the unincorporated Heathrow west of the freeway. Markham Woods Road travels north-south through Heathrow between Seminole County 46A and Florida 434 (Sanlando Springs Road). Drivers heading for Lake Mary Boulevard depart Interstate 4 westbound. Lake Mary Boulevard crosses International Parkway and Heathrow Boulevard just west of the freeway. To the east, the arterial joins unsigned Seminole County 431B (Rinehart Road) in one mile, Seminole County 15 (Country Club Road) in 2.5 miles, and junction U.S. 17 & 92 at Sanford in five miles. The one-half mile guidebook signal for Exit 94 (juncture Florida 434) resides at the westbound remainder region in the proximity ofSabal Point. Florida 434 (Sanlando Springs Road) arcs through the Seminole County suburbs of Forest City, Longwood, Winter Springs, and Oviedo. Photo taken 01/01/06.

Just take Florida 434 (Sanlando Springs Road) west to Wekiva Springs Road north to Sweetwater and Wekiwa Springs State Park. Wekiva itself lies west of Interstate 4 along San Lake Road. Photo taken 01/01/06.

The way back from the rest area forms the exit-only lane to Florida 434 (Sanlando Springs Road). Travel Florida 434 east for the cities of Longwood and Winter Springs. Longwood was actually founded by those remaining after the end of the second Seminole Indian War in the 1800s. Early colonizers’ main occupation were orange groves as well as other crops. Afterwards all sorts of churches and shops have been also established.10 The momentous downtown area also appears on the National Register of Historic Places, and Longwood otherwise exists as a bedroom community for Orlando. The final Seminole County transition connects Florida 436 (Semoran Boulevard) with Interstate 4 at Altamonte Springs. Semoran Boulevard encompasses a very busy east-west major surface through Forest City, Altamonte Springs, Fern Park, and Casselberry. The state highway actually goes off U.S. 441 (Orange Blossom Trail) and bows 25 miles east and south to the Orlando International Airport transition of Florida 528 Toll (Beachline Expressway). Western from the Exit 92 diamond transition with Florida 436 (Semoran Boulevard). Use Florida 436 west to Seminole County and U.S. 441 north for the city of Apopka. Downtown Apopka is conveniently located just 7.5 miles west. Altamonte Springs meanwhile includes the whole area surrounding Interstate 4 in southern Seminole County. Interstate 4 winds just north Orlando ahead of the Exit 85 diamond transition with Princeton Street. Princeton Street is serving the College Park area of the city, a paradise for youngsters. There are numerous coffee shops. Princeton Street crosses Edgewater Drive (unsigned Orange County 424 south of Par Street) just one mile west of Interstate 4 in the heart of College Park. Westbound at the Princeton Street diamond transition (Exit 85). Princeton Street intersects Florida 527 (North Orange Avenue) two blocks east of Interstate 4. Florida 527 follows the original Dixie Highway through downtown Orlando. Princeton Street west eventually becomes part of Florida 438 at its intersection with U.S. 441 (Orange Blossom Trail). Travelling south towards the significant downtown Orlando, Interstate 4 next joins Ivanhoe Boulevard (unsigned Orange County 424) and U.S. 17-92 & Florida 50 (Colonial Drive) at the transitions of Exit 84. The right-hand lane heads for the Exit 84 c/d roadway for Ivanhoe Boulevard at Lake Ivanhoe and Colonial Drive at Lake Concord. Ivanhoe Boulevard links Interstate 4 with Florida 427 (Orange & Magnolia Avenues) to the east and Lakeview Street / Edgewater Drive to the west. Lake Ivanhoe can be sighted from the Ivanhoe Boulevard partial-cloverleaf transition. Ivanhoe Boulevard engulfs the western shore of the lake to Ivanhoe Park. Changeable speed limit signs are mounted along I-4 as we approach to the significant downtown. In the picture we can also spot one, i.e. the 0.25-mile guide sign for the Colonial Drive off-ramp of Exit 84. U.S. 17 & 92 joins with Florida 50 between Dixie Highway and junction U.S. 441 (Orange Blossom Trail). The Exit 84 c/d roadway comes back to Interstate 4 ahead of the Colonial Drive under crossing. Florida 50 accompanies Colonial Drive east to Orlando Executive Airport and west to Ocoee. U.S. 17 & 92 joins Interstate 4 again with U.S. 441 at Exit 80A. High rises connected with downtown Orlando hike to the eastward of Interstate 4 and northward of the Holland East-West Expressway (Florida Toll 408. Orlando began as the U. S. Army Fort Gatlin in 1838 during the Seminole Wars. The tiny resolution of Jernigan accompanied the fort by 1840, and it received a position agency by 1850. In 1857, as the settlement expanded, Jernigan was renamed Orlando. Incorporation followed by 1875. 3 In 1880, the South Florida Railroad joined Orlando with Sanford and points northward. The arrival of railing cars fueled the citrus industry of Orlando and in move the increase of Orlando into a township and the ultimate place of Orange County. By the 1920s Orlando boasted over 10,000 residents, and during World War II, the metropolis became a military township with the formation of Army Air Corps education fields and atmosphere bases at the Municipal Airport and Pine Castle. The 1950s brought the Glenn L. Martin Company and its technologies, of which were used to construct missiles during the Cold War. 60,000 lived in Orlando by 1960. 4 The arrival the Walt Disney Corporation to the Orlando region commenced with building in 1967. Four years subsequently, one of the almost favorite topic parks on the planet Disney World, opened to visitors. The prosperity of the Walt Disney Corporation coupled with the hot mood continues the increase upsurge and suburban sprawl throughout the Orlando subway region today. Exit 82C quickly begins with Interstate 4 West with Anderson Street eastbound towards the splendid downtown Orlando historic district. Anderson Street meets Florida 527 (Orange and Magnolia Avenues) two blocks east at City Hall. Florida 527 leads drivers north to Church Street Station and the business district. Anderson Street conveniently goes over Interstate 4 at the Exit 82C loop ramp departure onto eastbound. The original bridge over Interstate 4 was destroyed within the Interstate 4 & Florida 408 Toll transition project. The completion date for a new segment for Anderson is the early 2008. Anderson Street includes the Florida 408 Toll eastbound frontage road from downtown to Lake Underhill and junction Florida 526 (Lake Drive). Interstate 4 next goes just under the Holland East-West Expressway (Florida 408 Toll) mainline ahead of the Exit 82B off-ramp to Gore Street. Gore Street encompasses a through-roadway between Delaney Avenue west to Orlando Center Boulevard two blocks south of Florida 408 Toll. Photo taken 01/01/06.

A driver heading for Gore Street taking Interstate 4 westbound via Exit 82B, as the freeway approaches the Exit 82A trumpet interchange with the Holland East-West Expressway. Florida 408 Toll winds in the very crux of Orlando between Ocoee, Pine Hills, Downtown, as well as University Park. Constructed between 1966 and 1973, the East-West Expressway serves as a bypass for Florida 50 (Colonial Drive) and through-traffic interests in the Orlando metro area.5 The toll road is preserved by the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority (OOCEA). A pair of trumpet transitions connects the main road between Interstate 4 and Florida Toll 408, similar to turnpike transition construction in the northeast. The Delaney Avenue off-ramp is the very beginning of Florida 408 Toll east of Interstate 4. Travellers heading west encounter Exit 9 to U.S. 17-92-441 (Orange Blossom Trail) within one half mile. It is intended to construct an underway so as to replace the old transition of the two highways. The work started in April 2006, as part of the Interstate 4 Trans4mation project and the aim was to construct a multi-level stack transition by the year 2009. Photo taken 01/01/06.

Interstate 4 travels south to the Exit 81C partial-cloverleaf transition with Kaley Street. Kaley Street is just perfect for the traffic of the areas Rio Grande Terrace and Clear Lake area of Orlando west of the freeway. Photo taken 01/01/06.

Separate ramps provide excellent movements to Kaley Avenue west (Exit 81C) as well aseast (Exit 81B) from Interstate 4 west. Kaley Avenue west meanders four blocks to junction U.S. 17-92-441 (Orange Blossom Trail) and six blocks to Rio Grande Avenue. Photo taken 01/01/06.

Exit 81B winds up to Kaley Avenue eastbound to Hourglass Lake as well as Peel Avenue. The surface street joins Florida 527 (South Orange Avenue) in one half mile and Bumby Avenue in 1.75 miles. Photo taken 01/01/06.

Interstate 4 loops southwest from Michigan Street to Exit 80A (junction U.S. 17-92-441). Michigan Street joins the Orange Blossom Trail three blocks north of its transition with Interstate 4. Interests to the O.B.T. northbound are recommended to use Michigan Street west. Exit 80 represents a left-hand off-ramp onto U.S. 17 & 441 south and 92 West (Orange Blossom Trail) from Interstate 4 west. U.S. 17-92-441 share footpaths between West Colonial Drive (Florida 50) at Orlando and Kissimmee in Osceola County. The trio heads on south from Interstate 4 to Edgewood and the Lake Jessamine area. Interstate 4 westbound next joins John Young Parkway (Orange County 423) at Exit 78. John Young Parkway encompasses the main north-south arterial between Orlando, Williamsburg, as well as northern Osceola County. The construction work over the year 2006 includes the building of a new off-ramp up to Orange County 423 from Interstate 4 west. A new collector distributor roadway goes along Interstate 4 West between Orange County 423 (John Young Parkway) and Conroy Road (Exit 78). Conroy Road heads west from John Young Parkway at Americana Boulevard to junction Florida 435 (Kirkman Road) and junction Orange County 439 (Turkey Lake Road). Exit 78 leaves Interstate 4 westbound for Conroy Road. Conroy Road becomes Conroy-Windermere Road (Orange County 439) en route to Windermere and Lake Down. To the east, Conroy Road meets Millenia Boulevard and Orange County 423 within just 1 mile. Americana Boulevard prolongues Conroy Road east to the Orange Blossom Trail in the proximity ofEdgewood. The Conroy Road overpass can be referred to as an entry to Orlando from Interstate 4 east. The bridge enchants guests’ eyes with its spectacular ornamental columns and fencing above the freeway mainline. The amazing amount of $28-million was spent on a project that included this segment and it was built 1998-2000. Photo taken 01/01/06.

Florida's Turnpike goes across paths with Interstate 4 at Exit 77 just outside of the ORlando city limits. Two trumpet transitions link the freeways via a short access roadway. Florida's Turnpike serves as a direct link to Interstate 75 and the north from Orlando and West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami to the south. Photo taken 01/01/06.

Drawing to within one half mile of the Exit 77 off-ramp to Florida's Turnpike on Interstate 4 west. The toll road was built in the traditional sense with few entry and exit points. Therefore only five transitions are available for the Orange County district from Florida's Turnpike. Interstate 4 westbound at the Exit 77 ramp heads for Florida's Turnpike. Interstate 75 is sited just 50 miles northwest via the Turnpike, 20 miles south of Ocala. Florida's Turnpike goes 221 miles southeast to the Golden Glades Transition with Interstate 95, Florida 826 (Palmetto Expressway), and U.S. 441 & Florida 7 in the Miami proximity. A trio of guide signs mounted on the Florida's Turnpike over crossing directs drivers to the the next two transitions. Joining Interstate 4 just ahead is Florida 435 (Kirkman Road), another major north-south arterial by Universal Orlando, and Florida 482 (Sand Lake Road), an east-west through road between Sand Hills and Pine Castle. Exit 75B is available for Kirkman Road in the northern side to Major Boulevard and Vineland Road; Exit 75A encompasses a left-hand off-ramp to Florida 435 south to International Drive. Changeable message boards included on the Exit 75B/A sign bridge direct drivers to the best road to Universal Orlando as well as to various other area places of interest. The studio complex is sited northwest of Interstate 4 between Universal Boulevard and Orange County 439 (Turkey Lake Road). Drivers heading for Florida 435 (Kirkman Road) northbound take Interstate 4 westbound at Exit 75B. Florida 435 goes north one mile to Vineland Road and 1.5 miles to Conroy Road. The state route stops just 5.5 miles at junction Florida 50 (West Colonial Drive) at Pine Hills. The left-hand exit onto Florida 435 south is a departure point from the freeway after the Kirkman Road northbound overpass. Driver travelling bound to the Orange County Convention Center are recommended to use Florida 435 south to International Drive south or Interstate 4 west to Florida 528 Toll and its transitions with International Drive. Westbound at the exit 75A left-hand off-ramp to Florida 435 (Kirkman Road) south. A transition between Florida 435 as well as Florida 482 (Sand Lake Road) is the southern exit of the state road. Kirkman Road crosses the International Drive and Carrier Drive on the 1.3 mile drive to Sand Lake Road. The Florida 435 on-ramp runs parallel the westbound travel lanes and join the Adventure Way south independent of Exit 74A (junction Florida 482). Florida 482 starts at the Sand Lake Road junction with Turkey Lake Road (Orange County 439) and heads east to Pinecastle, Belle Isle, and junction Florida 528 Toll (Beachline Expressway). Exit 74A leaves Interstate 4 westbound next to the Exit 74B over crossing of the Florida 435 westbound on-ramp. Exit 74A travels one half mile south to Florida 482 between Turkey Lake Road and the Interstate 4 under crossing. Turkey Lake Road carries Orange County 439 south from Conroy-Windermere Road to Sand Lake Road and continues south along the Interstate 4 frontage to Palm Parkway. Interstate 4 travels southward from the Exit 74A partial-cloverleaf transition to junction Florida 528 Toll (Beachline Expressway). Florida 528 Toll joins the Orlando metro district with Interstate 95 as well as with the Atlantic coast at Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. An un-stacked directional transition connects Interstate 4 with Florida 528 Toll (Beachline Expressway). Florida 528 Toll transitions with International Drive (Exit 1) just east of Interstate 4. From there the toll road travels to Universal Boulevard (Exit 2), John Young Parkway at Williamsburg (Exit 3), and junction Florida's Turnpike and U.S. 17-92-441 (Orange Blossom Trail) [Exit 4]. 43 miles separates Interstate 4 from Interstate 95 via the Beachline Expressway. Florida 535 intersects Interstate 4 at the Exit 68 partial-cloverleaf transition with Apopka-Vineland Road. Florida 535 north goes a short distance through Lake Buena Vista to its end at intersection Orange County 535 (Winter Garden-Vineland Road) and Palm Parkway. One half mile north from the Exit 68 off-ramp to Florida 535 (Apopka Vineland Road). Florida 535 serves the Lake Buena Vista resort and attractions areas both south of north of Interstate 4. Lake Buena Vista is one of two incorporated cities owned by the Walt Disney Corporation, nearby Bay Lake is the other. Photo taken 01/01/06.

Florida 535 travels south from Interstate 4 3.6 miles to meet the intersection U.S. 192 at the periphery of Kissimmee. Kissimmee is the Osceola County seat and the significant downtown is conveniently sited just ten miles east of Interstate 4. Apopka Vineland Road as well as Orange County 535 (Winter Garden-Vineland Road) both head north to Vineland and Summerport respectively. Photo taken 01/01/06.

Exits 67, 64, 64B as well as 62 are available for the great Walt Disney World resort area from Interstate 4. Exit 67 connects the freeway with Epcot Center Drive to the west and Florida 536 to the east. Epcot Center Drive is nestled just 3.5 miles to the north to Epcot Center as well as World Drive. Florida 536 meanwhile carries on the road that is Epcot Center Drive east to intersection Florida 535 (Vineland Road) and the Central Florida Greeneway east (Florida 417 Toll north). Florida 536 can be regarded as a gateway to International Drive and Florida 417 Toll north to Orlando International Airport and Sanford. The state highway directly joins the Central Florida Greeneway via a partial "Y" transition east of International Drive north. Drivers heading for the Gaylord Convention Center are recommended to use Exit 65 onto Osceola Parkway east for direct access to the facility that is located on International Drive south. Osceola Parkway provides access to Disney's Animal Kingdom and Disney's Wide World of Sports complex at Bay Lake. The east-west highway exists as Osceola County 522 in Osceola and as an unnumbered highway in Orange County. The expressway is a toll facility, with taxes charged on the segment between Florida Toll 417/Seralgo Boulevard and Flora Boulevard. The parkway spurs west of Interstate 4 to Disney's southern resort area and east to northern reaches of Kissimmee and Buenaventura Lakes. Photo taken 01/01/06.

A partial-cloverleaf intersection connects Interstate 4 with Osceola Parkway at Exit 65. Osceola Parkway sees transitions with the Animal Kingdom, West Buena Vista Drive, and World Drive to serve the Disney resort area. The road carries on east from Interstate 4 one mile to junction Florida 417 Toll and 3.5 miles to junction Florida 535 (Vineland Road) via Poinciana Boulevard. Rebuilding of the Interstate 4 and U.S. 192 improves the ramps between the busy divided highways. Since U.S. 192 can be referred to as the main commercial arterial outside of Disney itself, the federal highway serves higher speed ramps to and from Interstate 4. Exit 62 connects Interstate 4 with World Drive and Celebration Boulevard. World Drive constitutes an expressway spur to Bay Lake, Disney-MGM Studios, Disney's Magic Kingdom, and Disney's Epcot Center. The connection permits drivers arriving from the Central Florida Greeneway to access Disney's Magic Kingdom, Disney MGM-Studios as well as Bay Lake in lieu of Osceola Parkway. An arched ramp takes drivers to World Drive southbound to its neighbouring end at Celebration Boulevard. Celebration Boulevard heads north from Celebration High School parallel to Interstate 4 to Campus Street through the community of Celebration itself. Founded in 1994, Celebration is a master-planned community constructed by the Disney Corporation. Interstate 4 continues through northwest Osceola County through the future transitions with Florida 429 Toll (Daniel Webster Western Beltway) at the Osceola County 545 (Old Lake Wilson Road) viaduct.
